The Utah Jazz on Wednesday formally announced two hires that have been in the works for nearly two months, as well as the promotion of a staff member to a new role.
Justin Zanik and David Morway have been hired as assistant general managers, while Steven Schwartz has been promoted from a basketball operations assistant role to director of basketball operations.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported Zanik’s and Morway’s impending hires on July 21.
Zanik was the Jazz’s assistant general manager for nearly three years before leaving in 2016 for the same job with the Milwaukee Bucks. It was widely thought he was the GM-in-waiting in Milwaukee, but the Bucks over the summer hired Jon Horst to the position when John Hammond was hired as the GM of the Orlando Magic.
Morway spent the 2016-2017 season with Utah as a basketball operations consultant. His most notable role in the NBA was as the Indiana Pacers’ general manager from 2008-2012.
Schwartz has been with the Jazz for two years, where he has worked as an assistant to head coach Quin Snyder and general manager Dennis Lindsey.
