SANDY— In the midst of a particularly energetic atmosphere at Rio Tinto Stadium, Real Salt Lake played famed Manchester United close Monday night in a friendly before ultimately falling, 2-1.
With MLS play to resume in two days, RSL head coach Mike Petke put different players on in 30-minute increments, and his team actually scored the first goal of the match when Luis Silva scored off a pass from Jefferson Savarino in the 24th minute.
Manchester United struck back quickly, however, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan found the net in the 29th minute for the equalizer.
Star newcomer Romelu Lukaku then scored for Manchester United in the 38th minute, and neither side scored the rest of the match.
